T-Mobile made the myTouch 3G Slide Android smartphone official. The QWERTY side-slider features a 3.4-inch HVGA touchscreen, a 5 Megapixel camera with auto focus and flash and full QWERTY keyboard.

The myTouch 3G Slide runs Android 2.1 OS with a customized skin and comes with Swype keyboard pre-loaded. It also includes the Faves Gallery that presents up to 20 of your favorite people and the different ways to communicate with them — calls, texts, e-mail, instant messaging, social networking updates; and the easy-to-access Genius Button on the front of the phone allowing the use of voice commands to control the phone.

T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G Slide is designed and made by HTC. At less than 15mm thick, it supports microSD/SDHC memory card and WiFi connectivity. To be released in June, the phone will come in black, white and red.

LG Ally QWERTY Smartphone runs Android 2.1

LG is launching a new QWERTY smartphone called Ally that will run Android 2.1 OS. The Ally has been featured in an Iron Man 2-themed TV commercial and it has now it’s own site. The Ally features a 3.2-inch touchscreen and a side-side QWERTY keyboard.

You can expect the Ally to pack a 1GHz processor and support for GPS, 3G and WiFi. No word yet on pricing but it will be launched on 20 May.

Verizon HTC Droid Incredible Android Phone Now Official

Verizon officially adds the HTC Droid Incredible Android phone to its Droid lineup. The Incredible is HTC’s latest Android device, which runs the Android 2.1 OS with HTC Sense UI, Friend Stream for unified Flickr, Facebook and Twitter updates and “Leap” view for quick access to all seven home screen panels.

Powered by Qualcomm SnapDragon 1GHz processor with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM, the HTC Droid Incredible gets a 3.6-inch razor-shape 480×800 AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, a 8 Megapixel camera with dual LED flash, an optical joystick for navigation, and dedicated touch-sensitive Home, Menu, Back and Search buttons. The phone features also integrated GPS, WiFi 802.11b/g connectivity, 3.5mm headset jack, proximity sensor, light sensor and digital compass.

Verizon Wireless will release HTC Droid Incredible on 29 April 2010 and the price will be $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement.

One of the most eagerly anticipated applications for Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S is the BBC iPlayer, but now that the wait is over. Over the last few years the iPlayer has become a must have for internet users as it allows you to watch any of the BBC’s award winning programmes online if you happened to miss it when it was on the box.
Add this to hundreds of episodes of old shows and you get yourself a brilliant companion that means we are no longer a slave to the television schedules. Now the iPlayer came onto Android last month and has already attracted a huge amount of attention on the fast growing operating system.
Before you get too excited though, there is a drawback, and it is a big one. The iPlayer will only be available to phones which run on the Android 2.2 software and also the application needs Adobe’s Flash to work. This is a massive disappointment to millions of Android phone owners out there who will not be able to access the iPlayer as their software is not up to date or does not have Flash installed.
Daniel Danker from the BBC insited that the iPlayer will have “A simple and intuitive design with high picture quality and personalised favourites (making the most of the touch-screen UI, and a popular feature on the website)” but it still uses Flash to stream video and this will disappoint a great deal of people, including owners of phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S which, having been released a year ago, does not have the up to date software needed.
